Aim: To instruct a candidate to safely select, use, and inspection of harnesses and lanyards used for restraint on a Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) or Mast Climbing Work Platform (MCWP).
Course Objectives
The MEWP Training Centre delivers IPAF approved harness training for anyone who plans, manages, uses or inspects harnesses and lanyards when working with MEWPs.
Falls from the platform remain one of the major risks when using boom-type MEWPs, making the correct selection, fitting, use, inspection and storage of harnesses and lanyards essential for safe operation.
IPAF offers three levels of harness training:
- Harness Awareness (HA)
- Harness User (HU)
- Harness Inspector (HI)

Can Be Added to Your IPAF Operator Course
For candidates attending an IPAF Operator course for categories such as 1b Static Boom or 3b Mobile Boom, the Harness User qualification can often be incorporated into the operator training programme.
This provides a convenient way to gain both qualifications at the same time and ensures operators understand how to safely use harnesses in the machines they operate.
